Twelve high school seniors across the Rio Grande Valley got the kind of news that changes everything on Friday: each of them has been awarded a full-ride college scholarship through the TNB Foundation, worth more than $50,000 per recipient.
More than 2,000 students applied when the application window opened in November. From there, the field was narrowed to 30 finalists before the foundation selected this year’s twelve scholars, each surprised in person at their school.
Among them is Harlingen High School senior Emily Corona, who is headed to UT San Antonio to study law. Corona told KRGV the moment carried more weight than the money itself, sharing that she grew up navigating two households after her parents divorced and now plans to become a family law attorney representing children.
KRGV’s news team captured the surprise reveals and recipient reactions. Watch the full story here: Valley high school seniors surprised with full-ride scholarships.
This year’s awards continue the TNB Foundation’s mission to foster quality education and strengthen Rio Grande Valley communities by investing directly in the students who will lead them next.
